Lebanon’s historic downtown is getting a serious new player at the dinner table. Hatton's Steak & Courtyard, a family-run steak and seafood spot from owner John Newman, is now eyeing a late-summer to early-fall 2026 debut after permit setbacks pushed the project past its original spring opening goal. The plan calls for a large indoor dining room and a courtyard built to put long, lively evenings back on Main Street.
Newman told What Now Nashville that “this whole project has been something our family has wanted to do to bring a good spot to our hometown.” The menu will lean hard into steak and seafood, and the look will blend the old-school polish of Halls Chophouse in Nashville with the clubby vibe of The Polo Bar in New York, mixing classic steakhouse formality with more modern touches. Newman added that the team plans to roll out specifics on signature dishes closer to opening.
How It Fits Downtown
Hatton’s is setting up just steps from the public square that has long acted as the hub of Lebanon’s Main Street district, a core of local retail and community events. According to Historic Lebanon, the Main Street program has helped drive recent reinvestment and bring more activity back to the corridor, especially in the evenings. Dropping a full-service steakhouse with a sizable courtyard into that mix could shift the square’s nightlife toward more sit-down dining.
Timeline And Capacity
Newman initially hoped to have guests in seats by spring 2026, but permit delays stalled that plan, and the target is now late summer or early fall of 2026, according to What Now Nashville. Once open, the restaurant is expected to seat close to 300 guests and feature an outdoor courtyard designed with a Charleston-and-New-Orleans kind of vibe.
The planned address for Hatton’s, 208 E Main St., sits right in the heart of the square and currently houses a mix of small offices and shops, as reflected in local listings like US Business Directory. Newman says the concept is meant to be hometown-inspired rather than a chain, and the team plans to share more on hiring and the full menu lineup in the months leading up to opening.
