Health officials are alerting the public about a multi-state salmonella outbreak linked to moringa powder capsules under the brand Rosabella, distributed by Ambrosia Brands LLC. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are currently involved in the investigation, which has been traced back to these specific capsules that are marketed as a remedy for sleep, joint health, and energy levels, as reported by WFLA.
Since the illnesses began to surface, they have managed to lay seven people low across various states, including Florida, Washington, Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Iowa, and Tennessee, with the illnesses starting between Nov. 7, 2025, and Jan. 8, 2026, reported the Miami Herald. Despite the relatively low count, it's a unique situation, considering the strain's resistance to antibiotics. Making matters worse, CDC analysis reveals this particular salmonella contains the NDM-1 gene, marking it as an "unusual and highly concerning antimicrobial resistance."
Consumers should be aware that the common symptoms of salmonella infection are diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most people may recover without medical intervention, this outbreak poses a higher risk due to the antibiotic-resistant strain, necessitating possibly tailored treatments. Three hospitalizations have occurred so far, thankfully without any fatalities.
To reduce further spread, the FDA has suggested, and Ambrosia Brands has complied with a recall of specific lot batches of their Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules. The affected lot codes, which can be found on the bottom of the bottle above the expiration date, include numbers from 5020591 through 5020596 and continue up to 5100048, with expiration dates ranging from March to November 2027. Before consuming the dreaded moringa capsules, consumers and retailers are urged to check their bottles and dispose or return any items with these lot codes, according to WFLA.
To clarify confusion, the CDC pointed out that this is an entirely separate issue from another outbreak impacting 65 people across 28 states related to a different superfood supplement. The moringa powder capsules were sold on various online platforms, including TikTok Shop, eBay, Amazon, and Shein. Ambrosia Brands has since ceased sourcing the raw moringa leaf powder from the supplier linked to the outbreak. Customers who may have purchased the implicated products should contact Ambrosia for a full refund by calling 914-768-1357 during business hours, Monday through Friday.
