A routine Atlanta traffic stop turned into a homicide arrest when officers realized a teenage passenger in a white Toyota Corolla was wanted in connection with a deadly Airbnb shooting in Columbia, South Carolina. Atlanta police say the teen was taken into custody during the November stop, then extradited to South Carolina to face juvenile charges, and newly released body-camera footage has pushed the June killing back into the spotlight. One person was killed and three others were wounded in the shooting.
According to WSB-TV, the arrest happened on Nov. 14, 2025, when APD’s A.C.E. units pulled over the Corolla on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. Officers told reporters they smelled burnt marijuana and spotted an ashtray filled with several smoked marijuana cigarettes in plain view. After a records check showed the car had no valid insurance, they stopped the vehicle.
Police say a search turned up 69.5 grams of individually packaged marijuana, a digital scale and packaging materials. The driver, identified as Aidan Lloyd, admitted the drugs were his and was cited on distribution and insurance counts, according to the report. The passenger was later identified as a fugitive wanted by South Carolina investigators.
Deadly Airbnb Shooting In Columbia
The Columbia case traces back to shortly after 5 a.m. on June 6, 2025, when shots rang out at an Airbnb in the city’s Elmwood Park neighborhood, according to a Columbia Police Department press release. Officers were initially dispatched to the 2400 block of Lincoln Street for a possible auto break-in, but say the call was upgraded to “shots fired” while they were on the way. When officers forced entry at 2408 Lincoln Street, they found four people who had been shot.
The Richland County coroner later identified 18-year-old Jayden Cavon Brackins as the victim who died from multiple gunshot wounds, and police say three other young people were hospitalized with gunshot injuries.
Investigators recovered more than 30 shell casings and at least one assault-style rifle at the scene, and Columbia police told reporters the house had been rented as an Airbnb for a gathering of young adults. Authorities detained several people at the location and said they would notify the property owner about possibly pursuing a public-nuisance declaration for the rental while the homicide investigation continued, ABC Columbia reported.
Third Suspect Charged And Held
In November, Columbia police announced a third arrest in the case and identified a 17-year-old male who is charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person under 18, according to a Columbia Police Department release. The department says the teen was extradited from Atlanta and is being housed at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice while detectives continue to investigate. The same release notes that two other suspects were arrested in June in connection with the shooting.
How The Atlanta Stop Unfolded
Body-camera video used in local coverage shows Atlanta officers detaining everyone in the car while they checked records and searched the vehicle. At one point, an officer can be heard telling the back-seat passenger, “You’re going back to South Carolina.”
The footage also captures an officer saying, “He was featured on Patrol Live. He’s wanted out of Richland...Columbia PD,” as the suspect is identified and taken into custody, according to WSB-TV.
Investigation Ongoing
Columbia police say the motive for the June shooting is still under investigation and that detectives continue to process evidence and interview witnesses, according to local reporting. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Columbia PD or submit tips through the area CrimeStoppers program.
The case now straddles two jurisdictions, with South Carolina prosecutors preparing juvenile filings while Atlanta investigators continue to assist. All those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
