The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) announced updates to the proposed hunting regulations for the 2026-27 season, following feedback received since last month’s notices of intent (NOI). At a meeting last Thursday in Baton Rouge, the LWFC discussed new rules on drone use for tracking mortally wounded deer or bear and restrictions on internal combustion engines in certain Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).
According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries release, under the amendments, drones can be used to track and recover mortally wounded animals within specified rules. Engines are now prohibited in select WMAs from noon until 4 a.m.
The full NOI, including changes to hunting season dates and other regulations, is available for review. Public comments are accepted until 4 p.m. on March 6, and can also be submitted at the LWFC monthly meeting on March 5.
Comments can be sent to Dr. Jeffrey Duguay, LDWF Wildlife Division, via mail at P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000, by phone at 225-765-2353, or by email at [email protected]. A public Zoom meeting will be held on February 26 at 6:30 p.m. to present the NOI and take comments; registration is required.
Dr. Duguay remains the primary contact for further information. Feedback collected during the comment period will help guide final decisions on Louisiana’s hunting regulations.
