Early Wednesday morning, a fire broke out in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, causing significant damage to a triple-decker house and affecting adjacent properties. According to a report by NBC Boston, Boston Fire Department units responded to a blaze at 98 Wyman Street around 4:45 a.m., which rapidly spread to the house next door at 100 Wyman.
Deputy Fire Chief Gerard Viola conveyed to the media that, during the firefighting efforts, a firefighter was hospitalized when the ceiling collapsed, and the injuries sustained are yet to be disclosed. A resident from the engulfed house was also transported to the hospital, as stated in a social media post from the Boston Fire Department. The fire resulted in the displacement of 11 adults and two children, alongside a cat and a dog who called the building home.

Despite the aggressive nature of the fire, which greeted firefighters with heavy flames at the rear porch of the home, crews successfully prevented extensive damage to the neighboring building at 100 Wyman. This detail was shared in a Boston 25 News report. Following the collapse, one firefighter continued to fight the blaze despite the incident, and all residents safely exited the building.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, while the Fire Department's efforts have shifted to chasing down persistent hot spots. As reported by NBC Boston, the fire has been "knocked down," but the task to fully extinguish it remains ongoing. The department's continued dedication into the morning underscores the unpredictable and hazardous nature of such urban fires, often leaving residents and responders alike at the mercy of the flames' wrath.
This remains a developing story, and updates are expected to follow as more information becomes available. The community is now rallying to support those displaced by the fire, providing them with essential aid in the face of this unexpected tragedy.
