A routine traffic stop initiated by Chicopee Police due to a burnt-out headlight quickly escalated into a vehicle pursuit and subsequent drug arrest on Sunday evening. According to the Chicopee Police Department's social media post, an officer attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Chicopee St that turned onto Prospect St around 7:18 pm. The driver initially pulled over but decided to hastily flee as the officer approached, prompting a pursuit.
The chase came to an abrupt end when the suspect's vehicle collided with a snow bank near Old Lyman Rd and Willimansett St in South Hadley. The suspect, identified as Alguile Ramirez, a 27-year-old male from Chicopee, attempted to escape on foot but was found by police, including K-9 unit Jax and a drone unit, hiding under a vehicle a short distance from the crash.
Dubious contents were found in the vehicle during an inventory: a clear plastic sandwich bag with what is suspected to be multiple individually packaged quantities of crack cocaine, along with 10 wax envelopes containing a powdery substance, which the officers believe might be heroin. Ramirez is now facing several charges, including distribution and trafficking of controlled substances alongside numerous vehicle operation violations.
Ramirez, who the police say has had previous encounters with the law, has been charged with fail to stop for police, two warrants, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, violation to conceal a number plate, fail to stop/yield, speeding, distribute class B drug, subsequent offense; distribute class A drug, subsequent offense; lights violation, and trafficking in 18 grams or more of cocaine.
