Cutler Ridge Park turned into one big outdoor kitchen on Saturday, Jan. 24, when Cutler Bay’s 16th annual Chili Cook-Off pulled in what organizers say was a record crowd. More than 6,200 people streamed through the park for free chili, salsa, and cornbread samples, live music, and a busy Kids Zone that kept families circulating from the cooking tents to the food-truck row all afternoon.
In an official recap posted Jan. 29, the Town of Cutler Bay reported that more than 6,200 attendees packed Cutler Ridge Park on Jan. 24 and later shared a photo album and full winners list, according tothe Town of Cutler Bay. The recap also spotlights the free tastings, live music from hometown band Cutler Stew, a food-truck lineup and a Kids Zone loaded with inflatables and face painting, which officials say helped keep families on site for hours.
Winners And People’s Choice
Local restaurants, home cooks and firehouse crews split the bragging rights across multiple categories. Rodbenders Raw Bar & Grill grabbed best chili and best salsa in the restaurant division, Traveling Tailgater took first place for chili, and Flava Unit walked away with first-place cornbread and best-decorated booth. The Hialeah Fire Department claimed the People’s Choice chili title, while Ridge Rats Cutler Bay Firehouse 34 and Hanns On topped the salsa field, as reported by Miami's Community Newspapers.
Officials And Sponsors
Mayor Tim Meerbott called the cook-off “one of the signature gatherings in Cutler Bay.” The town also noted that Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins were in attendance, and organizers publicly thanked presenting and supporting sponsors that included Commissioner Higgins’ office, HCA Florida Kendall Hospital and Your Better Mortgage LLC, according to Town of Cutler Bay.
Why The Festival Keeps Growing
Organizers credit a simple recipe for the event’s steady growth. Free tastings, kid-focused activities and modest cash prizes broaden the appeal, and registration rules that split competitors into amateur, restaurant and firehouse divisions make it easy for different groups to jump in. That mix, along with consistent promotion and local sponsorship, is cited as a key reason the Chili Cook-Off has grown year over year, as local coverage and the town’s recaps have documented, per Miami's Community Newspapers.
