A Cincinnati woman has entered a guilty plea after being accused of stealing a substantial amount from four veterans, some of whom were elderly or ailing, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Ishwanzya Rivers, age 46, faced federal charges following her arrest in August 2025 and is now awaiting sentencing for misappropriating funds exceeding $158,000.

The betrayal came to light after an investigation unveiled Rivers' scheme. She siphoned over $135,000 from an elderly veteran on his deathbed at a VA hospital in Cincinnati. As stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Rivers admitted to inappropriately accessing the victim’s finances at least 45 times between June 2021 and November 2022. The remaining amount, more than $23,000, was taken from three other veterans.

Rivers reportedly used the stolen funds for personal luxuries, indulging in shopping, dining out, and funding extravagant trips to international destinations such as New Orleans, Montego Bay, Cancun, London, Panama, Zurich, Vienna, and the Maldives. This spending spree was financed by those who had dutifully served their nation, only to be exploited in their time of vulnerability.
