Cincinnati police are asking for the public's help tracking down two people caught on camera in an apparent grab-and-go on the 300 block of Calhoun Street. Investigators say the shoplifting happened last Sunday and that surveillance footage shows the pair taking merchandise from a store and walking out without paying. Detectives released photos on Monday as they continue to comb through video and follow up on leads, and officials note that Crime Stoppers is still taking anonymous tips.
Photos police released
In a post on X, the Cincinnati Police Department shared surveillance stills of the two individuals and asked the public to help put names to the faces. The images highlight a pair of jeans with a True Religion label and what appears to be a small air-fragrance product, details that investigators suggest could jog someone's memory. The post identifies Detective Bryant as the case contact and lists 513-352-3521 as the direct tip line.
Calhoun Street's retail-theft backdrop
Calhoun Street, running through the busy University of Cincinnati corridor, has seen more than its share of retail-theft alerts in recent years. WLWT previously reported on a Target theft on Calhoun that sparked a similar public call for help from police. At the same time, University of Cincinnati experts have been sounding the alarm about rising organized retail crime and the strain it puts on local shops and campus-adjacent business districts, as noted by UC.
How to share tips and a brief legal note
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Bryant at 513-352-3521, or call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040; anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers online portal. Under Ohio law, theft can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the value involved and the circumstances, as outlined in ORC 2913.02.
