Gunfire outside a west side Detroit bar turned deadly early today, leaving one person dead and two others wounded as patrons were clearing out for the night, authorities said.
The shooting erupted around 4:30 a.m. outside Suite 100 Lounge on Schaefer Highway near Puritan, as people were leaving the venue. Three people were hit by bullets, and one of those victims later died, according to police. Investigators found multiple shell casings scattered across the scene while they began collecting evidence and documenting the area.
The incident was first detailed by Metro Detroit News, which reported that the circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain unclear as detectives work to piece together what happened. Early reports did not include any information on possible suspects or a motive.
Investigation and context
Detroit’s homicide unit has been busy on the west side in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a separate late-night confrontation outside another west-side bar escalated into both a shooting and a stabbing, killing one man and leaving another critically injured, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
What authorities say
So far, police have not released any suspect descriptions and have announced no arrests in connection with the Suite 100 Lounge shooting. Detectives are still processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, and the investigation remains active, according to Metro Detroit News.
