A former St. George’s Independent School student indicted in a campus sexual assault investigation is set to return to Shelby County court at 9 a.m. today for a bond hearing. Court records show he has already posted a $300,000 bond and is no longer in custody.
The Shelby County court appearance follows the indictment and bond posting in the case, according to FOX13 Memphis, which reported the hearing time and noted that the defendant was released after posting bond.
Public records and local reporting identify the defendant as 19-year-old Bryant Swing Jr., who a Shelby County grand jury indicted on charges that include aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping, criminal attempt of rape, and multiple counts of sexual battery. Those details were reported by The Daily Memphian.
Investigators say the alleged assaults happened on campus after school hours. One account describes an Oct. 8 incident in the school’s athletic building, and another complaint dates to earlier in the fall. A search warrant executed in Olive Branch in November is tied to the probe, and authorities later charged a woman in DeSoto County with conspiracy and accessory after the fact in connection with that search.
School Response
St. George’s notified families in November after the reports surfaced and later expelled multiple students while the investigation continued. The school placed Head of School Luke Pruett on temporary administrative leave as it cooperated with law enforcement, according to reporting from Action News 5.
Legal Implications
Defense attorney John McNeil has said the most serious counts, including aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping, are Class A felonies that carry minimum sentences of 15 years and up to 25 years, and that consecutive terms could push potential prison time beyond 50 years. The earlier case that resulted in a juvenile charge is being handled through juvenile court, which shields the suspect’s identity under state rules, according to The Daily Memphian.
The bond hearing today is expected to determine whether the court imposes additional conditions on Swing’s release. The case remains under investigation, and authorities say they will release further information through official court filings.
