Commissioner Juan Carlos "JC" Bermudez is bringing back the “From Waste to Race 5K” for its second annual run. The event is scheduled for March 28 at 7:30 a.m., and it'll take place at the former site of a Miami-Dade County Landfill, now on its way to becoming a regional county park known for its distinctive topography.
Last year's inaugural race saw over 400 participants pound the pavement over this unique course, and this year promises more of the same. The aim is not just challenge runners with its rare Florida hills but to further encourage the transformation of the once-neglected space into a sought-after locale for running enthusiasts. According to a release by Miami-Dade County, this transformation signifies "the development and transformation of a once-forgotten greenspace into Miami-Dade County’s premier destination for runners in the area."
Interested runners can register for the race through Miami-Dade County’s official website, with registration closing when the race begins on March 28. The early-morning event will take place at 6997 NW 97th Ave and marks the transformation of a former landfill into a developing park space. Sponsored by Commissioner Bermudez, the event highlights Miami-Dade County’s efforts to reclaim neglected land for community use and reflects broader initiatives focused on environmental renewal and neighborhood improvement.
