A quiet Sunday morning on San Antonio's East Side was cut short by gunfire, leaving one person dead and a neighborhood once again behind police tape.
Authorities said the shooting happened around 7 a.m. in the 1600 block of Rigsby Avenue, where police and first responders converged and remained on scene through the morning as investigators worked the case.
According to WOAI, the Bexar County Medical Examiner confirmed it had been called out to the scene. WOAI reported that its crew had reached out to the San Antonio Police Department for more information while officers canvassed the area.
KSAT earlier reported that an SAPD sergeant at the scene said one person had been shot and that the victim's condition was unknown at that time. KSAT noted that both the San Antonio Police Department and the Fire Department did not immediately release further details and that the investigation was still in progress.
Rigsby Avenue's recent history
Rigsby Avenue and nearby corridors have seen more than their share of violence over the past year. The stretch has been the backdrop to multiple shootings, including a deadly double shooting outside an East Side bar in September 2025. MySA and other outlets have chronicled several such incidents along Rigsby, highlighting long-standing public safety concerns in the area.
Investigation ongoing
As of the latest reports, SAPD had not released the victim's name or said whether any arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Local news organizations said they plan to update their coverage once police and the medical examiner share additional findings.
