Detroit residents, prepare to bundle up as the city faces a chilly mix of snow and gusty winds, based on the latest weather forecast. According to the National Weather Service report, today's temperatures will hover near 35 degrees with snowfall expected before noon, followed by the possibility of additional snow after 2 p.m. A shift from southwest winds to northwesterly gusts reaching up to 26 mph is set to bring a cold front in the afternoon, with chances of precipitation sitting at a high 90%. With less than an inch of snow accumulation projected during the day, the evening is slated to usher in mostly clear skies but a significant drop in temperature to around 5 degrees, and wind chill values dipping as low as -12 degrees.
Tonight's brisk conditions will persist into Saturday, which promises sunny skies yet deceivingly frigid temperatures peaking at just 16 degrees. Wind chill values in the negative double-digits are expected to continue, and north northwest winds will decrease slightly to 10 to 13 mph, although gusts may still reach up to 24 mph. The clear skies on Saturday night will not offer much respite, as temperatures are forecast to fall well below freezing once more, down to around 4 degrees, despite the calming of west-northwest winds.
The weather pattern for Detroit will ease slightly on Sunday, with a slightly warmer high near 22 degrees beneath mostly cloudy skies. A gentle south wind will blow at 3 to 6 mph, leading into a cloudier Sunday night as temperatures regress to a low around 11 degrees. Going into Monday, the forecast suggests a continuation of cloudy conditions, with the mercury topping out near 28 degrees.
Looking ahead, Detroit's weather will remain relatively steady through the early part of next week, with partly cloudy nighttime skies on Monday and a warmer low near 20 degrees. The city is expected to experience partly sunny conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures climbing to the mid-30s. However, Tuesday night introduces the chance of rain as clouds gather, setting lows around 27 degrees. Uncertain weather persists into Wednesday, with a chance of snow and overcast skies leading to highs once again near the mid-30s. As the week progresses into Wednesday night and Thursday, residents can expect cloud cover to stick around, bringing nighttime lows around 20 degrees and day highs nearing 28 degrees.
