Authorities say the chain of events, from the initial gunfire to the highway stop, remains under investigation.
What police say
As reported by News 9, Guthrie officers responded to a shooting near the 200 block of Oklahoma Avenue in the city’s downtown. The situation escalated into a chase that moved south on I-35, passing Seward Road, before officers were able to stop the vehicle and take a person into custody on I-35 near the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City. The person was later transported to a local hospital as investigators continue to sort out how the shooting unfolded and led to the pursuit.

Interstate 35 has been the scene of similar high-speed chases in the region, and local reporting shows troopers and deputies often coordinating to end them while trying to limit the risk to drivers who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In a previous incident that wrapped up just south of Guthrie, a KOCO 5 News account described a TVI (tactical vehicle intervention) near Seward Road, a maneuver agencies sometimes use to force fleeing drivers to stop. Officers brought that earlier chase to a halt without any known major injuries.
