A Slidell home became the unexpected recipient of a Nissan Altima when a drunk driver lost control and crashed into the bedroom of a residence in the 100 block of Dewald Drive. The Slidell Police Department reported on social media that the incident occurred shortly before 11 pm on Thursday night, noting the miraculous escape of a 13-year-old who was sleeping in the room at the time; the child suffered only minor injuries in an event that could have ended far more gravely.
The driver, 20-year-old Alec Dillon from Slidell, was found at the scene by responding officers, visibly intoxicated he was arrested for 2nd Offense DWI, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Driving Under Suspension, and having an Open Container. According to the Slidell Police, the bedroom had been rearranged not long before the crash, a fateful decision as the previous layout likely would have resulted in a direct hit where the child was sleeping.
The Slidell Police Department's quick response and the fortunate absence of serious injury underline the inherent dangers of intoxicated driving, in a community where inches and seconds can make the difference between close calls and life-altering consequences; as Chief Seuzeneau highlighted, readily available alternatives like ride-sharing services make such risks unnecessary and utterly avoidable.
