However, visitors will now have to seek out alternative venues to enjoy the silver screen after the closing date. The Showcase Cinemas at Foxborough, which began welcoming guests in August 2008, offered a premium experience with reserved seating and in-seat dining options for its patrons. "We truly thank you for your dedicated patronage and hope to welcome you to one of our nearby locations," the business wrote concerning both locations, a sentiment originally reported by Showcase Cinemas.
The closing of these two beloved cinemas will leave a noticeable gap in Massachusetts' moviegoing map. Though Showcase Cinemas owns a total of 22 locations, including 10 in Massachusetts, these particular sites in Randolph and Foxborough have served as significant cultural venues for nearly three decades. The clear demand for a local movie-watching experience was strongly indicated by their past popularity, and yet the specifics behind the decision to close have not been disclosed by the parent company.
More details may yet come to light, as the Patriot Ledger reported that the Foxborough location is set to undergo renovations before Phoenix Theatres is scheduled to move into the space this summer. This suggests that the movie-going tradition in Foxborough will continue in a different form, possibly catering once again to locals' cinema appetites. "The company did not provide a specific reason for these closures on its website," according to MassLive, and attempts to reach Paramount Skydance, the owner of the Showcase Cinemas chain, have so far been unfruitful.
