The Fishers Police Department has issued a public notice warning residents about a wave of scam calls falsely impersonating local law enforcement officers. The department clarified on their Facebook page that a true Fishers Police Officer would never make calls to demand money or threaten individuals over the phone. The alert comes in response to several reports of callers posing as officials from the Fishers Police Department to con people out of their hard-earned money.
According to the social media announcement made by the Fishers Police Department, residents need to remain alert and to double-check the validity of such phone calls before acting. They're advised to hang up and to directly call back the non-emergency line at (317)773-1282 to confirm the authenticity of the contact. The department further provided a mnemonic to help citizens remember their advice: "Accept Nothing (right away), Believe Nothing (without checking), Challenge Everything (that seems off)."
This guidance comes as impostor scams remain prevalent, often leveraging the fear and trust citizens associate with law enforcement to illicitly gain money or personal information. The Fishers Police Department's proactive approach in addressing the issue is part of an ongoing struggle against sophisticated phone-based fraud operations that prey on unsuspecting individuals. They have emphasized the importance of their ABCs of scam prevention, "Accept Nothing, Believe Nothing, Challenge Everything," to stay one step ahead of these deceptive tactics.
