Hop City is taking the old boiling room inside the soon-to-open Upper West Market and turning it into The Boiler Room, a 30-seat bar tucked into 1385 Collier Road NW that will pour beer, wine, cocktails and THC drinks. The cozy counter-style spot will skip a full kitchen, instead nudging patrons to grab food from market stalls and wander out to the market’s shared outdoor gathering area. Renovations are underway, and owners say they are aiming to open the market in March, with The Boiler Room following in May.

From Chicken Plant Floor To Neighborhood Bar

Hop City plans to set up shop in the building’s former boiling room, keeping its 100-year-old brick and tall ceilings intact while commissioning murals from Catlanta and playing up theatrical lighting for both day and night service. The broader market will include an outdoor gathering area where customers can carry drinks beyond the bar, according to What Now Atlanta.

A Slightly Spooky, Stylish Vibe

“When we walked into the space for the first time, it looked like a scene out of ‘The Shining,’” CEO Kraig Torres said, describing the Boiler Room’s planned aesthetic and lighting. The 30-seat bar will scale back Hop City’s usual 60 to 85 taps to roughly 24 draft beers, expand the wine list and keep pouring THC beverages that now account for about 24% of the company’s sales. There will be no kitchen; instead, guests will be encouraged to order from market vendors and then settle in with their drinks in the bar or the market’s shared spaces.

Upper West Market’s Big Plans

Upper West Market has been pitched as an air-conditioned indoor farmers market and event hub for Underwood Hills, with earlier coverage highlighting a tenant mix that includes chef Anne Quatrano’s Summerland, local purveyors and HopCity Wine Bar. Eater Atlanta first profiled the project in 2024, outlining developers’ hopes that the space will host classes, seasonal events and an outdoor garden designed for gatherings.

How The Boiler Room Fits Hop City’s Playbook

The Boiler Room will slot into Hop City’s bottle-shop bar model across the Southeast. The company’s site lists locations at Krog Street Market and in West End in Atlanta, along with shops in Fayetteville and Birmingham. Hop City Beer & Wine describes its bars as places that pair retail selections with curated pours, a format the Boiler Room will follow at a more compact, market-focused scale.

For now, The Boiler Room looks set to join a busy spring slate of openings on the city’s west side as Upper West Market comes online. Hop City says it will share firm opening dates once the buildout is closer to the finish line.
