Gwinnett County, Georgia is reeling after an "unprovoked attack" at a Holiday Inn Express yesterday claimed the life of a police officer and left another critically wounded, as FOX 5 Atlanta reports. Officers Pradeep Tamang and MPO David Reed were responding to calls about a fraudulent hotel room booking when the shooting occurred.
Upon arriving at the scene in the 1700 block of East Park Place Boulevard, the two officers were invited into the suspect's room, where a confrontation erupted, leading to the tragic shooting; meanwhile, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken charge of the investigation, which is customary in officer-involved shootings, according to WAFB. The suspect, Kevin Andrews, 35, with active arrest warrants in DeKalb County, drew a gun and fired on the officers as they attempted to detain him, resulting in the fatal wounding of Officer Tamang, who died at the hospital, and left MPO Reed with several life-threatening injuries.
Officer Tamang, 25, had been with the Gwinnett County Police Department since the spring of 2025, heralding from Nepal, "These officers are heroes," Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure remarked on WAFB, emphasizing their bravery and the department's commitment to community safety, sentiments echoed by Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, who at a briefing urged for unity and reflection in this challenging time. The fallen officer's family, including his fiancée, are currently being brought to Georgia, "We are speaking to the community and asking you to stand in unity," Hendrickson said in her appeals for communal support, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
As the community grapples with this loss, a fundraiser has been established to aid the families of the officers impelled by this grief and violence, while Andrews, also injured in the exchange, has yet to face multiple charges, including murder and aggravated assault, as law enforcement and the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office deliberate the full extent of his legal repercussions; however, the nature of the initial fraudulent booking and the identity of the caller remain undetermined. "To the Gwinnett community, we, as a police department will not be deterred," Chief McClure pledged, beseeching ongoing public backing in the wake of the incident.

Kemp in a social media post expressing sorrow for the loss and hope for Cpl.
