A late-night drive in Hanover Township ended in tragedy early Friday when a vehicle slammed into a utility pole at the intersection of Millville Avenue and Mencella Drive, killing the driver at the scene.
The crash happened around 1:40 a.m., and emergency crews pronounced the single occupant dead shortly after arriving. Police shut down the intersection for several hours while deputies and crash investigators documented the scene and worked to determine what went wrong.
According to WKRC Local 12, deputies said the vehicle had been traveling eastbound on Millville Avenue when it left the left side of the road and hit the utility pole. Deputies told the station that speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the wreck. The Butler County Coroner has not yet released the driver's identity, and the crash remains under investigation.
