Traffic cameras along a Miami-area stretch of I-95 are now at the center of a homicide case, with investigators saying the footage undercuts a Broward man’s claim about how his partner died. According to authorities, the video shows Lorent Junior Pion assaulting and dragging 22-year-old Nahomi Cittadini before she was struck by oncoming traffic during a Dec. 7, 2024 incident. After prosecutors reviewed the images, Pion was brought back into court and is now charged with second-degree murder and related counts.
Traffic Cameras Tell A Different Story, Prosecutors Say
According to CBS News, Pion’s return to court followed a closer look at traffic-camera footage that prosecutors say flatly contradicts his version of events. Rather than showing Cittadini jumping from his vehicle, investigators say the images depict Pion assaulting her and dragging her toward the flow of traffic. CBS News reports that the video prompted prosecutors to revisit the case and file the new, more serious charges.
What FDOT Workers Say They Saw Live
Staff at the Florida Department of Transportation’s Traffic Management Center told detectives they watched the confrontation play out live just after 6 a.m., describing a man punching a woman and dragging her closer to the I-95 lanes, according to Local 10. The warrant detailed by Local 10 states that Cittadini was then struck by a sedan near the southbound Ives Dairy Road ramp and later found on the shoulder, with pieces of clothing nearby. Investigators say there was a blood trail on the roadway and allege that Pion went home with blood on his clothes, then took off from officers and led them on a chase that ended in a Miramar crash.
Warrant Details, Blood Evidence And Prior Complaint
The arrest warrant and subsequent reporting indicate that blood was discovered both inside and outside Pion’s vehicle, and that Cittadini had previously sought a protective order against him after an August incident, according to People. Investigators say Pion initially told police that Cittadini jumped from his car and was then hit by another vehicle, but the footage described in the warrant does not align with that account.
How The Case Escalated To Murder Charges
As CBS News reports, renewed attention in court followed a fresh review of the traffic-camera footage, which investigators now characterize as showing an assault rather than an accident. That reassessment helped move Pion’s status from person of interest to a defendant facing formal second-degree murder charges.
Charges, Custody Status And What Comes Next
Local coverage states that Pion is charged with second-degree murder along with counts related to fleeing the scene and failing to stop, and that he remained in Broward County custody while the Miami-Dade Homicide Task Force continued its investigation, according to Local 10. Prosecutors have not yet set a trial date, and the case remains open as investigators probe further and weigh any jurisdictional transfers.
Family’s Plea For Justice And Call For Witnesses
Cittadini’s mother has publicly demanded justice, telling reporters the alleged violence "shouldn't be done to even an animal," according to People. Authorities are asking anyone who was driving near the I-95 and Ives Dairy Road area around 6 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2024, to contact investigators if they have any information or dashcam video that could help the case.
