An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of making threats against Center Grove High School, as Indiana law enforcement agencies worked jointly in a rapid response effort that led to the early morning custody today. According to FOX59, the arrest involved the collaborative efforts of multiple local police departments.
Adrian Abundio-Valente, whose connection to the school was not immediately clear, was taken from his home on Breen Court in Indianapolis. Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess was determined to quickly act on the case after threatening comments surfaced on social media. "Law enforcement officers involved in this investigation worked throughout the night to locate and arrest an individual who posted threatening comments on a social media platform directed at Center Grove Schools," Sheriff Burgess stated, as quoted in a release cited by WISH-TV.
The threats caused "school staff, students and families in fear," said the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, affirming a zero-tolerance stance against such actions. "Threats against our schools, our students, and our educators will not be tolerated in Johnson County," the sheriff's office said in a statement, describing the suspect’s actions as "unacceptable and criminal," in comments reported by WRTV.
The collaborated investigation conducted by Indiana State Police, IMPD, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and the Center Grove Police Department, sought to ensure the safety of the school community. "We want to thank Center Grove Police Department Officer David Beasley and the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for working tirelessly through the night to make the arrest and ensure the safety of our school," the Center Grove Community School Corporation expressed its gratefulness in a message recognized by FOX59.
In light of the threat, precautions including increased police presence and restricted campus access were put in place. The Center Grove Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff's Office dispatched additional officers around Center Grove High School as a deterrent measure, and the main campus remained closed to visitors according to the school's safety plan, acknowledged Stacy Conrad, executive director of communications for Center Grove Community School Corporation, in reports from WISH-TV.
