A late-night gunfight on one of Brainerd’s busiest stretches of South Ashland Avenue left two men wounded Friday, according to Chicago police.
The shootout unfolded on the 9100-block of South Ashland Avenue on Chicago’s South Side just before 11:30 p.m. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene, and both victims were taken to Christ Hospital for treatment. One man suffered a chest wound, and the other was shot in the knee, authorities said.
Chicago police told reporters the victims are 42 and 69 years old and that investigators believe both men were involved in an exchange of gunfire. The 42-year-old was transported to Christ Hospital and listed in serious condition, while the 69-year-old was treated at the same hospital and listed in good condition. Officers first responded just before 11:30 p.m., as reported by ABC7 Chicago.
Shots On A Busy Corridor
South Ashland is a major South Side artery that has seen recurring gun violence in recent years, with prior incidents sending victims to Christ Medical Center and other trauma centers. In 2022, a driver was shot in the head while traveling through the same 9100 block of South Ashland, a case that underscored ongoing safety concerns along the corridor, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
Investigation
Area Two detectives are leading the investigation, and police said they did not immediately release additional details about what triggered the exchange of gunfire. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting, and detectives were asking anyone with information to come forward, ABC7 Chicago reported.
