Late Sunday night, gunfire rattled the Hickory Hill neighborhood, leaving at least one person wounded as Memphis police locked down two nearby locations and worked into the early morning to sort out what happened. Detectives stayed on scene for hours, combing for evidence and questioning anyone who might have seen or heard the shooting. Police have not released the victim’s condition, and the investigation is still very much active.
Officers were first called just after 10:40 p.m. Sunday on reports of shots fired along Flowering Peach Drive. A short time later, investigators were also processing a second scene on Maple Leaf Cove, only a few minutes away, according to FOX13 Memphis. The outlet reports that at least one person was hit, though how badly they were injured was not immediately clear. FOX13 said it reached out to the Memphis Police Department for more details but had not heard back.
Another violent incident in a tense Hickory Hill stretch
The shooting adds to a tense run for Hickory Hill, which has seen several violent incidents in recent months, including a death investigation earlier this week tied to a mystery body on Charlestowne Place. Local coverage has noted that detectives frequently lean on community tips and surveillance footage to make headway as they reconstruct these cases piece by piece.
Authorities are again asking anyone who might know something or who has video from the area to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH, as reported by Action News 5. The Mt. Moriah division of the Memphis Police Department is leading the latest probe, and as of the most recent reports, no arrests had been announced.
