A late-night collision on the Loop 303 in Surprise turned deadly Monday, when a motorcyclist was thrown from their bike and later died from injuries, according to authorities. The multi-vehicle crash shut down southbound traffic for hours as troopers worked the scene and began piecing together what happened.
Investigators say the motorcycle was heading south on Loop 303 near Northern Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. when it struck the rear of a Chevrolet, according to Arizona's Family. The impact reportedly ejected the rider, who suffered fatal injuries. Two additional vehicles were involved in the wreck, though officials have not said whether anyone in those vehicles was hurt.

In a statement to 12 News, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred near milepost 110 on the southbound side of the freeway. DPS confirmed the motorcyclist was ejected and later pronounced dead. Troopers are now working to reconstruct the sequence of events, and officials said the victim’s identity will be released after next of kin are notified.

Southbound lanes of Loop 303 were blocked in the area for several hours before reopening early Tuesday, Arizona's Family reported. DPS is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the wreck to contact investigators.
