A late Monday night stabbing tied to a Mercy Hospital employee has ended with a St. Clair man behind bars, police say. Officers were called at about 9:52 p.m. on Feb. 16 to 1100 Park Drive, and investigators later zeroed in on a suspect who is now being held at the county detention center while the case moves through the courts.
According to a media release from the St. Clair Police Department, the victim told officers she had gone to the suspect’s residence before the stabbing. Investigators later identified the suspect as Dennis Emerson. A warrant was issued for Emerson on charges including first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, subsection 4, according to the St. Clair Police Department. Emerson was later located and taken into custody.
Arrest and custody
St. Clair police say Union Police helped track down Emerson near the Franklin County Detention Center, where he was taken into custody “without incident,” according to the department’s release. The same release underscores that “All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Emerson is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond, according to the St. Clair Police Department.
Where the case goes next
The Franklin County Adult Detention Center in Union handles county bookings and provides booking and detention contacts on the sheriff’s website, which officials say is the place to check for custody status. Prosecutors and the magistrate’s office will determine whether formal charges are filed and set an arraignment date for Emerson.
For questions about custody or court dates, the county lists a detention and booking line at (636) 582-8600 and a St. Clair non-emergency number at (636) 629-1313, per the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
