A late-night disturbance in a motel parking lot along the 5800 block of East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth ended in deadly gunfire Tuesday, leaving an adult man shot to death and a homicide investigation now underway, police said. Officers arrived just after 11 p.m. and found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics tried life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives opened a homicide probe, and no arrests were reported in the hours following the shooting.
According to WFAA, witnesses told detectives that two men were in the parking lot when a disturbance escalated and one of them opened fire. The outlet reported that Fort Worth Fire Department crews performed life-saving efforts before the victim was pronounced dead.
Police: Homicide Investigation Underway
In a statement via the Fort Worth Police Department, officials said homicide detectives were processing the scene, canvassing the area for witnesses, and working leads. Investigators emphasized that no suspect had been taken into custody and urged anyone with information to reach out through the department’s official channels.
Witnesses and Video Canvass
Witnesses told investigators they saw the confrontation unfold before shots were fired, and detectives are widening their canvas in search of more eyewitnesses and any surveillance footage that might fill in the gaps. As WFAA noted, police have asked nearby residents and businesses to review doorbell and dash-cam video and to come forward with anything that could help the investigation.
East Lancaster Corridor Has a History of Problems
The shooting happened along a stretch of East Lancaster that city leaders have repeatedly called out for crime and nuisance issues. Fort Worth launched a Nuisance Enforcement Task Force last year to crack down on problem motels and businesses in the corridor, after data showed hundreds of police service calls at some properties, FOX 4 reported.
What’s Next
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after notifying next of kin and will determine the official cause and manner of death. Police say the case remains an active investigation. Anyone with tips can contact the Fort Worth Police Department or use the department’s online tip portal to submit information.
