
Early Monday morning in Campbell County, a camper in the Lick Creek area on South Highway 25W went up in flames, and by the time crews put the fire out, one man was dead inside.
According to a post from the Campbell County Sheriff's Office on Facebook, deputies and the Campbell County Rural Fire Service responded to a camper fire at 5060 South Highway 25W on Monday morning. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, a deceased male was located inside the camper. The sheriff's post stated that early findings indicate the fire appears to be accidental, and the victim's remains were taken to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center.
Investigation Underway
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's arson division has joined local detectives in sorting out what happened, according to WVLT. The station reported that the fire was called in around 4 a.m., and that crews discovered the victim after knocking down the flames.
WVLT also reported that the Campbell County Rural Fire Service asked the community to "please be in prayer for the family of the victim during this time." Officials have not yet released the man's identity, and the investigation remains active.
