Randy King has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 20 years, for the 2023 murder of a Buckhead valet, named Harrison Olvey. The verdict, handed out by Fulton County judge David Emerson, followed a guilty ruling by a jury on all counts against King, including three counts of murder and multiple felony offenses, 11Alive reports.
Olvey, who was just 25 years old at the time of his death, was shot shortly after 2 a.m. in the 2400 block of Piedmont Road near a bustling shopping center and the Lindbergh transit hub. Despite being taken to Grady Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Atlanta Police described the events leading to Olvey's death where he attempted to intervene during a vehicle break-in by King, and, was fatally shot.
King, who had previously pled not guilty, remained calm when the verdict was read but his family members' sobs punctuated the courtroom silence. Emphasizing King's "lack of remorse" observed during the trial, the judge rendered the life sentence. The defense highlighted that King's mother contended her son might have been at the vicinity of the car break-ins, but denied his role as the gunman.
The loss of Olvey, who had recently graduated from Kennesaw State University and was on the cusp of a promising career in financial planning, is felt deeply by his family. "He had a bright future ahead of him," his mother Autumn Ernst told 11Alive. "I'm just so proud to call him my son. I’m lucky to be his mom. He touched everybody's lives in some way."
