Atlanta police spent Sunday working yet another deadly shooting on the city's southwest side, after a man was found shot on the 900 block of Coleman Street SW. Officers responded to the location and found the victim, and homicide detectives were called in to handle the case. As of Sunday, police had not announced any arrests or released a suspect description.
Atlanta police confirmed the man died from his injuries after the shooting in the 900 block of Coleman Street SW, according to WSB-TV. The station described the situation as a developing scene and said a Channel 2 crew was on the way. At the time of that report, the victim's name had not been made public.
Where It Happened
The 900 block is in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of southwest Atlanta, near Pittman Park. A July 2024 killing on that same stretch came after a man confronted people who were allegedly trying to break into a car, and police later charged a 16-year-old in connection with that case, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. That earlier homicide, together with Sunday's killing, underscores recurring violence on and around Coleman Street, according to the paper.
Nearby Incidents and Response
Southwest Atlanta has seen several deadly shootings in recent months, including a January incident that left a 24-year-old woman dead at an apartment complex on Bent Creek Way SW, according to WSB. Homicide detectives were expected to canvass the Coleman Street area for surveillance footage and witnesses as the investigation continued. By early evening, Atlanta police had not released any additional details.
This story will be updated as Atlanta police release more information or announce any arrests in the case.
