Houston police are searching for two men after a man was shot while sitting inside a pickup truck late Sunday and later died at a hospital. Officers found the victim in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet Silverado near the 5100 block of Clay Street and Bell Street, and Houston Fire Department crews transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators have not released the victim's name and said there were no arrests as of Monday evening.
According to KHOU, HPD's South Central patrol division responded at about 8:05 p.m. to a call for shots fired on Bell Street and found the man inside the truck. Police said the two suspects, described as males wearing black hoodies and orange-and-black face masks, ran from the scene on foot, and no weapon was recovered. Authorities told KHOU they do not believe the shooting was a road-rage incident and that detectives are actively canvassing the area.
Police Ask For Tips
HPD's Homicide Division is handling the investigation and is asking neighbors and drivers with dashcam or doorbell footage to call detectives. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 713-222-TIPS (8477), and the Homicide Unit's nonemergency line is 713-308-3600, according to Click2Houston. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward through Crime Stoppers.
Nearby Incidents
This shooting follows another pickup-related incident earlier this weekend in northeast Houston that left a 15-year-old wounded after a white pickup pulled up outside a home, as reported by Hoodline in coverage of a white pickup pulled up outside a home. Both investigations remain active, and police asked residents to check doorbell and dash cameras for any footage that could help identify the suspects.
