A tragic road incident occurred on I-49 in Natchitoches Parish, leaving a Michigan man dead after a two-vehicle crash. The Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the scene near Mile Post 140 on Last Thursday, February 12, where 25-year-old Dejuan D. Dickerson of Highland Park, MI, lost his life, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
The fatal sequence unfolded when Dickerson, driving a 2025 Freightliner, had to stop on the southbound shoulder to change a flat tire. During this vulnerable time, the driver of a 2023 Freightliner veered into the shoulder, colliding with the stationary vehicle and Dickerson. The reason behind this fatal drift remains under scrutiny, and the investigation is ongoing.
Dickerson was pronounced dead at the scene, his life ended abruptly due to the crash. The other driver, though buckled up, suffered only minor injuries. In line with protocol, toxicology samples were acquired to substantiate the investigation, raising questions that charges may be forthcoming depending upon the results.
The perils of distracted and inattentive driving loom large in this incident, a recurring theme in the tragedy of crashes in Louisiana. The State Police has implored the public to remain vigilant behind the wheel. A statement from their offices highlights the high stakes: "A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences." Understanding this, the collective mind of the society must shift, embracing caution as a constant companion on the road, as stated by the Louisiana State Police.
