Two Michigan schools, one from Marysville and another from Warren, have recently been recognized for their exceptional contribution to education at the 2026 National Elementary and Secondary Education Act Conference held in Denver, Colorado. Reports from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) highlighted the achievements of Morton Elementary School of Marysville Public Schools in St. Clair County and Frontier International Academy of the Frontier International Academy District in Warren in Macomb County.
In the citation from the Michigan Department of Education, Morton Elementary was selected for Category 1, celebrating "exceptional student performance and academic growth as determined by each state." Frontier International Academy, on the other hand, earned its accolade in Category 3 for "excellence in serving special populations of students." The ESEA, a cornerstone in K-12 federal education law since 1965, aims to improve educational quality and access through substantial funding.
State Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko lauded the schools' success, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of stakeholders. "We are proud of both schools as students, parents, administrators, and teachers continue working to improve achievement and overall performance," he expressed. These honors signify more than just the performance of these institutions; they showcase a collective commitment to uplifting every learner within the educational ecosystem.
According to the same MDE release, the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program identifies schools that exemplify how ESEA funds can be effectively utilized to bolster the achievement of disadvantaged children. In support of this mission, MDE sponsored a group of educators from each school to attend the conference. These schools now stand as beacons within Michigan's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, a roadmap for the state's education community in support of all learners.
