Yesterday afternoon, a shooting behind a business on the 2000 block of Colonial Boulevard in Violet left a man dead and sparked a homicide investigation, according to authorities. Deputies with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office were called to the scene around 12:40 p.m., found the victim behind the business, and later confirmed he died at a local hospital.
In a Facebook update, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Colonial Boulevard and discovered an adult male lying behind a business with a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, and officials described the investigation as ongoing.

Sheriff James Pohlmann said the shooting unfolded near East St. Bernard Highway and Colonial Boulevard and that detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau are leading the case, according to WDSU. Authorities have not released the victim's name or any information about a suspect.
