An early morning pursuit on West Hillcrest Avenue in Montgomery County ended in an arrest after a harrowing crash. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Dayton Ohio relayed the events via a social media post, detailing the February 10 incident that occurred at 2:17 a.m. when a deputy spotted a gold Chevrolet Impala driving erratically, straddling the center of the roadway.
Upon attempting to initiate a traffic stop, with emergency lights flashing, a deputy was led on a high-speed chase as the driver, Demetric Hagler Sr., chose to accelerate away. Speeding at roughly 75 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone, Hagler lost control of the vehicle. The Impala nearly collided with an oncoming vehicle before flipping and coming to a stop, upturned in the eastbound lane.
Assisted by Trotwood Police Department officers, deputies quickly moved in to render aid, extracting Hagler from the wreckage. After sustaining minor injuries, he was transported to a local hospital by Harrison Township Fire Department and later released, only to be booked into the Montgomery County Jail. During the subsequent investigation, a loaded firearm was discovered inside Hagler's vehicle, leading to his arrest.
Sheriff Rob Streck commented on the incident stating, "When someone chooses to drive recklessly and ignore law enforcement, the outcome can be devastating." He added, "We are fortunate this incident did not result in serious injuries to members of our community." As reported by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Hagler is now facing charges for Having Weapons Under Disability and Fleeing and Eluding in a Motor Vehicle, with additional charges pending review by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
