Nashville is starting the day under a hazy blanket, with patchy fog and mostly cloudy skies slowing things down early. Observations at Nashville International Airport showed temperatures around 42°F and areas of reduced visibility before sunrise. The fog is expected to thin out by mid-morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies and a high near 64°F this afternoon. Light east-southeast breezes will keep conditions calm and unseasonably mild for mid-February.
Morning Fog and Commute
Parts of Middle Tennessee are covered by a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 AM CST, so drivers should be ready for sudden drops to near-zero visibility on some surface streets and rural roads. Keep the low beams on, slow it down, and budget a little extra time for the ride in. Much of the metro is included in the advisory, but visibility should improve quickly once the sun climbs higher, according to the National Weather Service.
Warm Week Ahead
Once the fog lifts, Nashville gets rewarded with a springlike stretch. Highs are forecast to climb into the upper 60s on Tuesday and then into the 70s by midweek, with Thursday looking like the warmest day as some spots approach 77°F. Our Feb. 15 update, Soaked Sunday Sets Stage For Warm Week In Nashville, flagged this quick warm-up and the return of milder air across Middle Tennessee.
Late Week Rain Chances
Dry conditions should hang on through Wednesday, but a late-week system brings increasing rain chances and the possibility of showers or thunderstorms from Wednesday night into Thursday. Forecasters currently put rain and storm chances near 40% Wednesday night and around 30% on Thursday. Any storms that do develop could feature gusty south-southwest winds up to about 25 mph. If you have outdoor plans later in the week, keep a close watch on updates from the National Weather Service.
What To Do
If you are heading out this morning, take it easy in the fog: slow down, use low beams, and give yourself a cushion for school drop-offs and early appointments. By afternoon, you can count on comfortable, mostly sunny weather for outdoor plans, but it is smart to have a backup option for Thursday evening in case those showers and storms decide to show up.
