Detectives tracking two stolen semi-truck trailers stuffed with roughly $500,000 in cargo tailed the loot from the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center to an industrial strip in Sparks, then watched and waited. By the time the operation wrapped, three Northern California men were in handcuffs, and the high-dollar cargo was back in law-enforcement hands.
According to investigators, deputies were first alerted last Thursday that two trailers had vanished from the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. Detectives soon located them in an industrial area of Sparks and quietly put the rigs under surveillance. On Friday, a sheriff’s detective watched as a semi truck and a passenger car pulled up, hooked onto one of the trailers, and rolled out, prompting Sparks officers to swoop in, stop both vehicles, and arrest everyone inside, a timeline KOLO reported.
The three people arrested were identified as 21-year-old Arashdeep Singh of Fremont, 26-year-old Deepinder Singh of Manteca, and 25-year-old Harman Pal Singh of Lodi. Each was booked into the Washoe County Jail on felony counts of possessing stolen property valued at $100,000 or more, as well as attempted possession of stolen property, 2 News reports. Officers say the traffic stops directly led to the recovery of the cargo and the bookings into the Washoe County detention facility. Investigators stressed the case is still active and warned that additional charges could be on the way.
Storey County deputies pegged the recovered product at about $500,000 and said the case kicked off when the trailers were reported missing from the industrial park, according to local reporting. Police have not disclosed exactly what was inside the trailers or which shippers were affected, citing the ongoing investigation.
Why this matters
Cargo theft has been climbing sharply across North America in recent years, with industry data and federal testimony pointing to steep year-over-year increases and average losses landing in the six-figure range, a backdrop that helps explain why massive hubs like the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center can end up in the crosshairs. A Senate hearing that brought together datasets from CargoNet and Overhaul underscored the scale and sophistication of modern cargo theft and framed incidents like this one as part of a broader supply-chain security problem, according to Congress.gov.
Storey County and Sparks police say their investigation is still underway and that the evidence will be sent to prosecutors for charging decisions. The suspects remain in custody as officials review potential additional charges. For more on law-enforcement statements and how the arrests unfolded, see coverage from FOX40.
