Indianapolis police say a months-long overdose investigation on the city’s northwest side has led to an arrest in a deadly September case.

IMPD’s Overdose Death Task Force arrested 29-year-old Kameron Tinnin this week, alleging he played a role in a fatal overdose at a northwest-side apartment complex in late September. Detectives spent months piecing together evidence that led to search warrants and, ultimately, an arrest warrant in the case. Authorities say Tinnin was taken into custody Thursday as the investigation moved into the charging phase.

According to WISH-TV, investigators identified Tinnin as a suspect in the Sept. 30, 2025 death at an apartment in the 8700 block of Old Town West Drive and sought an arrest warrant. The station reports Tinnin was located and taken into custody two days after the warrant was issued, with assistance from a U.S. Marshals task force. WISH-TV also reports detectives believe evidence recovered during a November search warrant was connected to the fatality.

Search Warrant Turns Up Drugs, Cash and Guns, Police Say

In a public statement, IMPD said a search warrant executed on Nov. 1, 2025 produced evidence that investigators tied to the September death. Officers reported seizing about two pounds of marijuana, roughly a half-ounce of suspected fentanyl, 10 grams of suspected cocaine, several hundred pills, drug-dealing paraphernalia, approximately $2,700 in cash and four firearms. Police listed those items as part of the overdose investigation and shared the details with local media after obtaining warrants and conducting follow-up interviews.

Fentanyl Fuels Marion County’s Grim Overdose Surge

Local health and coroner data show fentanyl continues to drive a deadly spike in overdoses across Marion County, raising the stakes for investigators and prosecutors who work these cases.

WRTV reported that the Marion County Coroner's Office has investigated more than 500 overdose deaths this year and that nearly 80% involved fentanyl. The Marion County Public Health Department's OD2A program tracks how fentanyl and other emerging substances are showing up locally, and the Marion County Public Health Department said OD2A funding helps the county test drug samples and map overdose hotspots.

What Happens Next in the Case

WISH-TV’s reporting notes investigators say Tinnin played a role in the September death, and that he was previously arrested in November on separate charges, including dealing in a controlled substance and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors must now decide whether to file additional charges tied directly to the overdose, and IMPD has not released a timetable for that decision.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers.
