Responding to reports of gunfire just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oklahoma City police say they arrived at a northwest Oklahoma City trailer to a chaotic scene that left one man dead, another wounded and an officer in the hospital.

Officers located a wounded man and got him to a nearby hospital. A short time later, they found a second man dead inside a trailer near the scene. Police said an Oklahoma City officer was also hospitalized following the incident.

What police say

According to News 9, Oklahoma City police said Master Sgt. Mathew Nelson, a 19-year veteran of the department, encountered 49-year-old Steven Saathoff, who was allegedly armed and firing a pistol. Nelson fired his weapon, striking Saathoff, who was then transported to a local hospital, News 9 reported.

Officers later discovered another man, identified by police as Colten Saathoff, dead inside a trailer near where the shooting occurred, according to the same report.

Scene and response

Per the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers responded to the 5200 block of Harmon Drive in northwest Oklahoma City after the calls about gunfire and secured the area while investigators interviewed witnesses at the scene.

The department asked anyone with information about what happened to call 405-297-1111. Officials have not released a possible motive and have not said whether any charges will be filed.

Police said the case remains under active investigation and that more details will be released as they become available, according to News 9. Master Sgt. Nelson remains hospitalized, the department said, while investigators continue to collect evidence at the location.
