Oklahoma's Governor Kevin Stitt has made the ceremonial gesture of awarding the Governor’s Medal of Valor to Commissioner Tim Tipton for his long-standing commitment to public security and widespread safety initiatives, in a gesture that reinforces state support for law enforcement. The award, according to a press release from the Governor's office, acknowledges Tipton's strategic foresight in public safety matters and his efforts in positioning state law enforcement to preemptively address threats to the community.
In that same statement, Governor Stitt lauded Tipton, saying, "He has navigated unprecedented public safety challenges with professionalism, precision, and courage, foreseeing threats and positioning state law enforcement to address them before they can endanger Oklahomans," as stated by the Governor's office. The ceremony not only celebrated Tipton’s achievements but also served as an occasion to announce naming a new law enforcement training facility after him the Tipton Training Center this will serve as a lasting tribute to his nearly four decades of work with the agency.
Commissioner Tipton, who has been with the agency for almost 38 years and served nearly five as commissioner, expressed his gratitude for the recognition; his remarks were captured during the ceremony where he said, "It’s the biggest honor of my life." He emphasized the honor he felt in leading what he refers to as the "most professional group of law enforcement officers in the country," which higlights the camaraderie and respect within the Oklahoma law enforcement community, as noted by the Governor's office.
Among Commissioner Tipton's lauded achievements is his leadsership on Operation Guardian, a first-in-the-nation initiative targeting smart immigration enforcement that's worked in cooperation with federal authorities to secure the arrest of dangerous criminals present in the state unlawfully; thanks to this effort, Oklahoma is currently third nationwide for the removal of dangerous criminals in real numbers. Governor Stitt further emphasized the tangible safety improvements in Oklahoma due to Tipton's dedication, a sentiment echoed throughout the law enforcement community.
