A sudden water main break has Oliver Springs scrambling, with officials warning of distribution problems across the entire system and asking residents to sit tight while crews dig in for repairs.
Officials: Crews On Scene, Repairs Underway
In a Facebook update, the Oliver Springs Fire Department said, “we currently have a water main break causing distribution issues for our whole infrastructure” and confirmed that crews are on scene working to fix the damaged line. The department apologized for the inconvenience and asked residents to be patient while the repair continues, according to the Oliver Springs Fire Department.
How To Get Help And Report Problems
Residents dealing with urgent water issues are asked to call the town’s after-hours emergency dispatch at 865-435-7777. The Water Department can also be reached at 865-435-7722, according to town guidance. The after-hours instructions request that callers provide a name, address, and a short description of the problem so crews know where to go and what they are walking into, the Town of Oliver Springs says.
Background: Past Outages And System Sources
Oliver Springs has seen similar breaks in recent years, with previous outages and repair work drawing local coverage and boil-water notices. The town’s 2024 water quality report notes that the system pulls from Bacon Spring and the Clinch River, which can increase pressure and contamination risks when a main fails, according to 3B Media News.
What Residents Should Do Now
Officials are urging residents to conserve water where possible and to keep an eye on the town’s official channels for repair updates and any potential boil-water instructions. If a boil-water advisory is issued, public health guidance recommends boiling water for at least one minute, or three minutes at higher elevations, before drinking or cooking with it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outlines these steps and other emergency water safety tips, the CDC says. Households that lose pressure or service for an extended period are advised to keep some bottled water on hand as a backup.
