The Parkway Central High School community is currently grappling with the sudden loss of senior Olivia Bumbac, 17, who died following a car accident on westbound I-64 near Route 141. As reported by FOX2now, Bumbac was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday evening. The principal, Dr. Tim McCarthy, conveyed his condolences, stating, "Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Bumbac family as they mourn the loss of their daughter and sister."
In details provided by the First Alert 4, the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that the incident occurred when a 17-year-old boy, also a Parkway Central student, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip and subsequently collide with another driver. The male student, who was the driver, is currently hospitalized and in critical condition. The school is reaching out to support the community by providing mental health resources for those affected by the tragedy.
Friends and classmates of Bumbac gathered for a vigil to remember her and share memories. Aahana Shrestha, a close friend, told First Alert 4, "It’s unreal, it’s never going to feel real, she was always there, she’s always going to be there." Another friend, Mina Kazerooni, highlighted Bumbac's vibrant nature by adding, "Her contagious laugh, she could make friends with the wall, it was insane." These remembrances painted a picture of a beloved figure in their community.
Further underscoring her impact, Bumbac was not just a noted student at Parkway Central High School; she also stood out as an athlete on the school's varsity lacrosse team. According to information obtained from Surf Radio FAL, she wore jersey No. 50 as the lacrosse team's goalie. More than her sports achievements, her commitment to helping others was evident in her actions. Even in death, her status as an organ donor means she is poised to save as many as 50 lives, representing the generosity that defined her. Tarun Rana, a family friend, shared that she had "mapped out her future carefully" with aspirations to enter the healthcare field.
