A Portland Community College student waiting at a busy bus stop near the Southeast campus reported a disturbing encounter Monday afternoon that has school officials urging the community to stay alert and speak up.
The woman told campus public-safety officers that a man followed her and touched her at the SE 82nd Avenue and SE Division Street transfer point, then pushed her before running off when confronted. PCC labeled the report a potential ongoing safety concern and asked anyone who saw something, or who might recognize the suspect, to contact authorities.
What PCC's alert said
According to KOIN, PCC Public Safety said the woman reported that the man "touched her inappropriately" at about 4 p.m. Monday, then left the area after being confronted. The campus alert asked anyone with information to contact PCC Public Safety so investigators can follow up.
The school described the suspect as a Black adult wearing a black puffy jacket.
Where it happened
The incident was reported at SE 82nd Avenue and SE Division Street, a busy transfer point that serves Portland Community College’s Southeast Center. TriMet route information shows the 72 and several other lines stopping at 82nd and Division, making the corner a common link between campus and public transit. Route details are listed by TriMet.
The city has been working on safety and lighting upgrades along SE Division and 82nd Avenue to improve conditions for pedestrians and transit riders, according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation.
How to report and where to get help
PCC Public Safety lists an emergency dispatch line at 971-722-4444 and a non-emergency number at 971-722-4902 for campus safety concerns or tips about this case.
The college also directs students and staff to confidential advocacy through PCC Hope Services, which offers support to survivors and guidance on reporting options.
PCC said tips can help investigators identify the person involved and reduce risk to others who use the campus and nearby transit stops. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact PCC Public Safety or the Portland Police non-emergency line, and to call 911 if someone is in immediate danger.
