Tuesday’s early commute along Beatties Ford Road turned into a traffic nightmare after a school bus collided with at least two other vehicles in front of Northwest School of the Arts in north Charlotte. One person was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, and crews shut down the busy stretch while medics and investigators worked the scene. It was not immediately clear how many students, if any, were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Scene and response
According to WBTV, the wreck happened around 6:30 a.m., just as early-arrival traffic typically starts building near the campus. Paramedics reported that one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and CMS police blocked off Beatties Ford Road in front of the school while emergency crews treated the injured and began clearing the crash site. WBTV noted that CMS had been contacted for additional details as investigators continued to piece together what happened.
Near the school
Northwest School of the Arts’ first bell rings at 7:15 a.m., according to the Northwest School of the Arts bell schedule, which means buses and family drop-offs typically start stacking up along Beatties Ford in the half-hour before classes begin. The school sits directly on the corridor, where district and city crews often have to coordinate their responses when traffic incidents threaten to spill onto school grounds or disrupt arrival and dismissal.
Why this stretch matters
Beatties Ford Road is no stranger to serious wrecks. In May 2025, a crash outside the same school left one person dead and several others injured, as reported by WCCB. The corridor’s safety record has been a concern for years, prompting the City of Charlotte to roll out sidewalk and crossing upgrades along Beatties Ford as part of a broader safety effort, according to the city’s City of Charlotte project page.
Investigation ongoing
Police had not yet released information about what led up to Tuesday’s crash, and investigators remained on scene early Tuesday working to document the wreck and reopen the road. WBTV reported that updates were expected once agencies confirmed details and that anyone with information about the collision was urged to contact authorities.
