The tradeoff for the damp start: a mild afternoon, as temperatures rebound into the low 50s with a high near 53°F and light northeast winds. Most spots will wind up with around a quarter to a half inch of new rainfall in the heaviest bands.
Morning Rain And Fog
The steadiest rain and mist should wind down by midmorning, with the wettest window wrapping up before 10 a.m. That said, localized pockets of reduced visibility, especially in low-lying or recently soaked neighborhoods, may linger through the earliest part of the commute. Roads will stay slick, and skies should hang mostly cloudy into the afternoon, with only occasional peeks of sun.
Fog Tonight Into Monday
All that leftover low-level moisture is not going anywhere fast. Fog is expected to redevelop Sunday night into Monday, February 16, and some patches could again turn locally dense. Lows will slip into the mid-30s with light west winds, which means fog may hang on through the Monday morning drive in areas that picked up the most rain. Drivers should stick with low beams, ease off the gas a bit, and leave extra stopping distance wherever visibility drops.
Midweek Warmup And Wind
By midweek, central Indiana trades gloom for an early taste of spring. Temperatures are forecast to climb sharply, with highs reaching the upper 60s on Wednesday, February 18, and a projected high near 69°F along with increasing southwest winds. According to the National Weather Service, gusts could top out around 35 mph on Wednesday, and current guidance hints at a shot to break daily temperature records. A slight chance of showers or an isolated thunderstorm comes into play as a warm front moves through late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Commute And What To Watch
Expect slower travel this morning where lingering fog and wet pavement team up, and plan a little extra time around rivers, underpasses, and other typical trouble spots. Looking ahead to Wednesday, if you have outdoor plans, you will want to secure trash cans, lawn chairs, and any other loose items that might not handle a gusty afternoon, as stronger breezes can toss small branches and unsecured patio furniture. Air travelers should keep an eye on airline alerts, with low visibility this morning and midweek winds both capable of causing delays.
