Tulsa Representative Michelle McCane has introduced three bills aimed at improving public education in Oklahoma, currently ranked 50th nationally. HB 3485 would align public school employees’ benefit allowances with those of state employees, including legislators.
According to the Oklahoma House of Representatives release, HB 3486 would cap district superintendent salaries at six times the salary of a first-year teacher to redistribute funds toward students and teachers. HB 3487 would set the minimum hourly wage for public school employees at $15 to reduce turnover.
The three bills have been referred to the Appropriations and Budget Education Subcommittee for consideration.
