Oklahoma's House of Representatives saw its ranks slightly grow larger this week as Dillon Travis, a member of the Republican Party from Maramec, officially took office to swiftly start serving his term following a recent special election. Travis, representing House District 35, which spans several counties including Pawnee, Creek, Noble, Osage, and Payne, was sworn in during a ceremony this past Wednesday, as the chamber's composition tipped even further in favor of the GOP, now boasting an 81 to 18 majority over Democrats.
"I promise to represent House District 35 well and continue working hard for rural Oklahoma," Travis said, according to an official statement from the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He expressed his gratitude towards his family and friends, singling out his wife, mom, brother, and supporters across the district for their roles in his electoral victory.
A sixth-generation Oklahoman, Travis brings a background seeded deeply in agriculture and small business to the legislature. He owns an agriculture company that operates across four states and manages his family's cattle and hay enterprise, experience he's likely to draw on as he navigates the complexities of land management, business operations, and the regulatory policies that so closely affect rural communities. Travis's practical knowledge could prove to be a valuable asset as the state house grapples with issues pertinent to Oklahoma's sizable agricultural sector.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Travis is reported by the Oklahoma House of Representatives release to have one daughter and to make his home in Maramec with his wife. The newly minted legislator seems poised to begin to actively influence policy in his newfound role, with his swearing-in cementing the Republican supermajority in the Oklahoma House—a dynamic that inevitably shapes the legislative agenda in the state.
