San José police say a weeks-long run of suspicious fires may finally have a suspect in custody. Last Tuesday, the department announced it had arrested a person investigators believe is behind a recent string of vehicle and structure fires that damaged cars and buildings across the city, following an intensive probe that pulled in arson investigators and patrol officers.
The department revealed the arrest on its official X account, San José Police Media Relations, saying evidence was recovered as part of the case. The post linked to additional material about the investigation and publicly thanked community members for sending in tips.

Series Of Fires Stretched Across Central San José
The arrest follows a cluster of late-January vehicle fires that left dozens of cars damaged and sparked multiple arson investigations in central San José. According to SFGATE, 11 cars were set on fire near Highway 87 last Tuesday as investigators worked to determine whether those incidents were connected.
Investigators Had Been Examining Large Warehouse Blaze
Authorities had also been looking closely at a massive warehouse fire earlier in January as they tried to understand the broader pattern. CBS San Francisco reported on a five-alarm blaze at North 28th and Julian streets that caused major damage and drew a large response from the San José Fire Department.
Police Ask Neighbors To Check Cameras And Report Tips
Investigators are urging residents to review doorbell and security camera footage, especially overnight recordings, and share anything that might help the case. SFGATE noted that San José fire officials and police are encouraging people to call the Arson Tip Line at 408-272-7766 with information.
In its social media announcement, the department did not immediately release the suspect's name or formal charges and said the investigation is still active. Officials asked anyone with additional information to contact the tip line or send anonymous tips through local crime-stoppers channels.
