
A routine Saturday afternoon on Atlanta's west side turned deadly when a man was found shot near a dentist's office on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW, and another man was detained at the scene, according to police.
Atlanta officers were called to 3412 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW, where they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound outside the dental business, Atlanta News First reported. Investigators told the outlet that one person was taken into custody, and that officials were not yet releasing additional details in the early stages of the case.
The office sits along a busy stretch of MLK Drive, where Grady paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene after officers responded at about 3:05 p.m., according to WSB‑TV. Homicide detectives remained on site as they began piecing together what led to the deadly gunfire in the middle of the afternoon.

The killing is the latest in a string of shootings along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW that have rattled nearby neighborhoods. Local coverage has documented multiple homicides on the corridor, and earlier fatal shootings on the corridor have fueled calls from residents and officials for more tips, more cooperation and fewer bullets.

The scene stayed active well into the evening, with investigators and evidence technicians working outside the office as they documented the area and searched for clues, Atlanta News First reported. Authorities say they plan to release more information as it becomes available.
